Legacy

EMPOWERING INNOVATION FOR OVER 100 YEARS!

Evolving out of Commercial Shearing and Stamping, which started in the 1920’s, Commercial Metal Forming has transformed into “the preeminent tank head manufacturer” - the partner of choice for tank producers. Driven by our Culture, supported by the depth/breadth of capabilities, CMF has become the largest independent manufacturer of tank heads and tank accessories in North America.

Founded as Commercial Shearing and Stamping, our first products included dump truck beds in the 1940s, with World War Two raging across Europe and the Pacific. We turned our focus from that of an industrial manufacturer to becoming a key supplier of artillery shells and other military components to America’s fighting forces.

We have grown both organically and by acquisition over the years; starting with the investment, first and foremost, in our people. CMF will continue to bring innovation to the market; trying to solve the unmet need that so often goes unacknowledged or addressed.

Locations

At our original plant in Youngstown, Ohio, Commercial operates large and small bed presses (up to 2,000 tons) and cellular manufacturing that goes from coil to a formed and joggled head package. We have engineered redundant capabilities for our presses for optimum manufacturing flexibility. Capabilities for Die Formed Cold Tanks: 4” -72” in diameter x .059” - .500”.

Our Orange County, California facility primarily serves the western 11 states, with specific items that ship all over the USA plus Canada, Mexico, and Japan. The plant can manufacture hot-formed heads 6.625 – 48” up to 2” thick, cones and toriconical heads, segmented hemispheres, and bump and spun heads up to 300” in diameter.

Saginaw, Texas, is the site of our southwest plant. Becoming part of CMF in 1995, Saginaw has experienced dramatic growth due to continuous investment in equipment and technology. This facility can produce bumped and spun heads from 20” – 200” up to 1.25” thick.

Our People

Despite the impressive range of products, processes, and capacities, The Commercial story is really about people, individuals committed to working hard, innovating, and providing value in everything they do. That’s why we believe that the most valuable investment fueling our ongoing success is in the people who understand that their potential is limitless.
